HOWTO: Reset a lost OS X password
I've you've forgotten your Mac's admin account password, don't worry. Assuming you haven't locked out OpenFirmware, it's a pretty simple task to change your password back to something you know.

Here's a nifty trick I've never heard of before. Saves the hassle of resetting a frozen linux box.
9. Sanely reboot a locked-up box
Rather than hitting the power button when something is dramatically
crashed, thus meaning that you have to wait though a fsck disk check
when the system boots back up, hold down Alt + Sysreq/Print Screen, and
press REISUB in turn (whilst continually holding down those keys).
Magic: your machine will reboot, after stopping all the programs and
syncing and unmounting the drives.
There are some other magic things that you can do with SysReq, as well -
it's worth looking up the documentation.
